Two new Master’s programmes licensed at Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences
On May 30th, 2018 the Higher Education Quality Agency granted licenses for the implementation of two new Master’s programmes at Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences (ViA): “Media and information literacy” and “Virtual reality and smart technologies”.
“The content of both study programs has been developed in direct collaboration with employers. Following the technological and societal development trends, graduates of these programmes will not only successfully enter the labour market, but will also support the wider society whilst carrying out applied research and participating in various industry internships,” says rector of Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences, Dr. hist. Gatis Krūmiņš.
The “Media and information literacy” programme will focus on the today’s globalised, digitised and mediated environment and the application of the knowledge gained to problem solving in the field of media and information literacy. The content of the study programme is based on the in-depth study of the basic issues of the communication science, in the context of findings of other social sciences and humanities. Within this framework, student will develop an in-depth understanding of the interaction of individuals, society and technology with economics, politics and social aspects.
The “Virtual reality and smart technologies” programme will provide knowledge about Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR/AR) technologies, their application and role in innovation. Students will have the opportunity to work with actual industry issues and cooperate with professionals, which will allow them to acquire new knowledge, develop skills and competencies in the management of three-dimensional content, programming, modelling, etc.
Duration for study programme “Media and information literacy” is 1,5 years (if you have already obtained a professional degree) or 2 years (if you have obtained an academic degree). After graduating from the programme, the student will receive an academic Master’s degree in social sciences. The duration of the “Virtual reality and smart technologies” programme is 1,5 years and graduates will obtain a Professional Master’s degree in Virtual Reality and Smart Technologies.
Adoption of the documents for the academic year of 2018/2019 for the basic studies (college, bachelor) programs will happen in the unified application system www.latvija.lv from June 25 till July 10 , but for all Master’s study programmes the electronic applications will be open from June 25 till July 10.
