Media History Digital Library (MHDL) is a free, open‑access online archive that provides access to millions of digitized pages of books, magazines, and other print materials related to the histories of film, broadcasting, and recorded sound. The vast majority of the materials are in the public domain, making them freely available for research and exploration. The project includes the Lantern search platform to browse and search full‑text content and tools like Arclight for data visualization. MHDL is maintained by the Wisconsin Center for Film and Theater Research at the University of Wisconsin‑Madison and is widely used by scholars, students, and media historians to study media industries and cultural history.
